Learning AND Practice of Visuddhimagga

Learning and Practice of Visuddhimagga

Visuddhimagga (Path to Purification) written by Bhadantācāriya Venerable Buddhaghosa in the 5th century is the encyclopedic manual of Buddhist doctrine and meditation practice. Visuddhimagga has a systematic explanation of the Buddha's teaching found in the Tipitaka and has been classified under three headings: Sīla (morality), Samādhi (concentration), and Paññā (wisdom). Bhadantācāriya Venerable Buddhaghosa has elaborately explained the forty objects of meditation to develop concentration with the ultimate aim to attain Nibbāna.

In this lecture series, our teacher and instructor Venerable Bhante Vimalvansa from Sri Lanka—of the Kalyani Yogashrama forest monastery tradition, Pāli scholar, teacher of the Abhidhamma, Samatha & Vipassanā meditation—will cover the Visuddhimagga in-depth from the book itself, along with his English translation.

The goal of this lecture series is not only to learn the theoretical aspects, but also to develop the practical aspects of samādhi (concentration), achieve jhāna, and practice Vipassanā as a jhāna-based meditator, or practice Vipassanā without jhāna attainment as a pure insight meditator, up to Arahanthship!
